April 23, more than 13,000 pounds of chicken were donated to food banks in Skagit and Island counties by Skagit/Island Counties Builders Association (SICBA). Seventy cases were delivered to North Whidbey Help House and 60 cases were delivered to South Whidbey Good Cheer. After delivering boxes of the chicken to Help House, the truck drove to Langley.
“This is quite a donation and is only half of what will be purchased by SICBA this year in cooperation with Draper Valley Farms to be given to local area food banks,” said Bob Johnson, president of SICBA. “SICBA raised over $12,000 from its members from October through December of 2001 for this program. We now have spent $6,000 of those funds and will deliver the rest of the food in August.” Rick Jones, president of South Whidbey Home Builders, said,
“This truly is a blessing at the time of the year when meat supplies are low. Recipients of this chicken are very lucky to have SICBA members be so generous each year,” said Bill Nance of North Whidbey Help House.
SICBA will make a donation to the homeless shelter, Friendship House in Mount Vernon. Their portion will be delivered in August.
