Blown fuse causes Crescent Harbor fire

A brush fire on East Crescent Harbor Road by base housing was quickly resolved Wednesday afternoon.

A brush fire on East Crescent Harbor Road near base housing was quickly resolved Wednesday afternoon without injuries or property damage, according to North Whidbey Fire and Rescue.

The department was dispatched to the scene around 4:30 p.m. May 31. Interim Fire Chief Chris Swiger said the Navy fire department was also dispatched for mutual aid.

Swiger said the fire was caused by a blown fuse on a power pole. Upon arrival, firefighters found a slow-moving grass fire in an approximately 10 by 50 foot area in the brush along the side of the road. They extinguished it quickly and cleared the scene within half an hour.

Several nearby homes lost power temporarily that afternoon, likely as a result of the blown fuse.
