Biden ahead in state, county

Former Vice President Joe Biden holds a narrow lead over Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in the Democratic Primary in Washington state.

As of Friday morning, Biden currently holds 36.87 percent of the total votes in the state, while Sanders trails behind with 34.85 percent. Sen. Elizabeth Warren from Massachusetts is in third with 10.11 percent of the vote.

The divide between the two potential Democratic presidential nominees is wider in Island County with Biden currently holding a 10 point lead over Sanders, according to data from the Island County Elections Office.

While there are an estimated 500 ballots left to count in Island County, Biden appears to have secured a victory in Island County.

Approximately 52 percent of registered voters in Island County participated in the primary. The Island County Elections Office is expected to update its results at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Biden has won the largest percentage of votes in Douglas, Pierce and Island counties. While Sanders has won the largest percentage of votes in Whatcom, Whitman, and Franklin counties.

The neck-and-neck race between Sanders and Biden is a stark contrast to the Vermont Senator’s success in the 2016 Washington Democratic Caucuses, in which Sanders swept the stage with 72 percent of votes against Hillary Clinton.
