Josh Evans’ three-run home run helped carry the Oak Harbor High School baseball team to a 7-5 win over host Sedro-Woolley Wednesday, March 17.

The Wildcats also got a solid pitching performance from Jay Stout. Oak Harbor had given up 26 runs in splitting its first two games. Against the Cubs, Stout went six innings and gave up just three hits and two earned runs. Ryan Byrne pitched the seven to earn the save.

Oak Harbor scored two in the third inning as Evans started things off with a single. A hit-and-run single by Justin Counts put runners at the corners, then Counts stole second. A ground out by Byrne and a sacrifice fly scored the two runs.

Evans followed with his blast in the next inning to put the ‘Cats up 5-0.

Evans finished the day two-for-four with three runs and three RBI. Counts was three-for-four. Kian Mebane pitched in with a double.

Coach Tyson VanDam said, “Stout pitched a good game for us. One that we needed after our last two games where we were forced to use a lot of pitching.”
