Singers and musicians with North Whidbey Middle School came home with trophies after a weekend trip to Tacoma.

The eighth-grade band and seventh and eighth grade choir competed June 6 at the Music in the Parks festival at Stadium High School.

The band, under the direction of Andrew Judd, took first place in their division and received a superior rating. Conner Craig, a trumpet player in the band, received a special medal for his solo.

Under the direction of Linda McLean, the choir placed second in their division and received a good rating.

The trip began on Friday afternoon, June 5, when about 60 students and their chaperones boarded a school bus and traveled to Game Works in Seattle. The following day, the group headed to Tacoma to perform for judges at Stadium High School and spent the rest of the day at Wild Waves.

Groups were honored with an award ceremony that evening.

Both ensembles took home trophies that are on display in the North Whidbey Middle School office.
