After a year of canceled or postponed events, Oak Harbor residents and visitors have a lot to look forward to in the next few weeks.
Grab a bite to eat at the Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce’s event, “Crab Cakes and Cocktails” on July 30.
Crab cake connoisseurs will find music, classic cars from Whidbey Cruzers and more at Flintstone Park from 4-9 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $50 from the chamber of commerce. Proceeds will go to scholarships for Oak Harbor High School seniors.
The next day kicks off a weekend of hydroplane racing July 31-Aug. 1. Spectators can watch racers for free during “Hydros for Heroes,” a charity event hosted by The Craig McKenzie Team Foundation and supported by the Rotary Club of Oak Harbor. The best place to view the action will be along Southeast Bayshore Drive in Oak Harbor. The event is meant to highlight members of the military, law enforcement, first responders, teachers and health care professionals. Active duty military members are welcome to be honorary pit crew members and should contact event organizers.
A couple of days later, families are welcome to head over to Windjammer Park in Oak Harbor for “National Night Out” from 4:30 – 7 p.m. on Aug. 3. Law enforcement and emergency personnel from the Oak Harbor Police Department, Island County Sheriff’s Office and Naval Air Station Whidbey Island will be there to increase crime prevention awareness, along with civic, business and neighborhood groups. There will be free activities for kids and demonstrations and exhibits for all ages.
Golfers will hopefully sink a hole in one at the 6th annual Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce golf tournament at the Whidbey Golf Club in Oak Harbor on Aug. 6 from 11:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Tickets cost $115 and include a golf cart, box lunch and swag bag. Proceeds will go to the chamber’s New Year’s Eve fireworks show.
Shoppers can peruse Pioneer Way during “By the Harbor Vintage Market” organized by Dina’s Great Finds and the Oak Harbor Main Street Association on Aug. 14 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
There will also be some classic cars on display among antiques, primitives and “great junque.”
The last summer “Picnic in the Park” hosted by the Center in Oak Harbor is coming up on Aug. 25 from 12-2 p.m. at Windjammer Park. Picnickers can pre-order a picnic box for $15 (members) or $20 (non-members) to enjoy at the pavilion near the basketball courts at the waterfront park.
