Director Sarah Russell announces auditions for Gilbert and Sullivan’s “PIRATES OF PENZANCE.” The Whidbey Playhouse will host auditions March 29, 30 and 31. “Pirates of Penzance” is a hilarious farce of sentimental pirates, bumbling policemen, dim-witted young lovers and an eccentric Major-General. Auditioners are to be ready to sing from selected pieces, which are available at the Whidbey Playhouse, and be dressed for dance movement. Choral auditions are Sunday, March 29, with women at 2 p.m. and men at 3:30 p.m. Auditioners are to come prepared to sing two ensemble songs with other auditioning chorus members, from a list of Pirates of Penzance song selections. Sheet music and an MP3 recording are available at the Playhouse. Principal role auditions, by appointment in five-minute blocks, are 6-8:30 p.m. Monday, March 30. ROB SCHOUTEN GALLERY’S “The Department of Whimzy” Reception is 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 3, at Greenbank Farm.
