Arlington used a big second inning to get rolling in an 11-0, five-inning win over the visiting Oak Harbor High School softball team Tuesday, March 31.

The Eagles (2-1, 3-3), who finished with 11 hits, scored six runs in the second inning on only two hits. Four walks and two errors fueled the Arlington rally.

“We can compete with these teams,” Oak Harbor coach Todd Showalter said, “but we have to play clean. Every time we make a mistake, they score.”

The defense wasn’t all bad, Showalter said. Freshman center fielder Samantha Payne “took some hits away,” “we saved some runs with good outfield-infield communication and relays” and “situationally we did a much better job,” he said.

Arlington’s Maddie Maclean  pitched a two-hitter, striking out seven.

Tricia Sarns collected both Oak Harbor hits.

The Wildcats (0-2, 0-4) meets Stanwood (1-1, 2-3) at home at 4 p.m. Friday, April 3.
