The North Whidbey Aquatic Club Aquajets raced to a second-place team finish in the 16-team YAC Swimming Wine Country Invitational Swim Meet last weekend in Wapato.
The meet was won by Seattle’s Cascade Swim Club.
NWAC was led by 10-year-old Laura Rosen, who won all 10 of her individual events and also swam a blistering 21:01.20 in her exhibition 1500-meter freestyle. The time would have been fast enough to place in the senior girls division. Rosen also notched six Western Zone All-Star Meet qualifying times and set three team records.
Other NWAC individual event winners were Ciara Hu, Amanda Streubel, Cole Weinstein and Evan Wilson.
Also victorious was the Aquajets’ boys 10-and-under 200-meter freestyle relay of John Rodeheffer, Nick Streubel, Matthew Olloren and Cole Weinstein, which set a team record of 2:38.02. Other team-record-setting NWAC relays included the girls 10-and-under 200 medley and 200 freestyle teams (Makenzi Schulle, Olivia Meyer, Laura Rosen and Kennedy Trisler), the boys 11-12 400-meter freestyle (Joshua Jepsen, John Kaltenbach, Jacob Jepsen and Brett Vagt) and the boys 13-14 400 freestyle (Devin Schell, Tyler Schell, Price Hu and Brandon Vagt).
Fourteen state championship qualifying times were recorded by 11 NWAC swimmers including Ciara Hu, John Hu, Price Hu, Olivia Meyer, John Rodeheffer, Devin Schell, Tyler Schell, Amanda Streubel, Nick Streubel, Akasha Trisler and Cole Weinstein.
Six of the local tankers swam personal bests in every race, both individual and relay. This group included Price Hu, Monica Olloren, John Rodeheffer, Devin Schell, Cole Weinstein and Rachel Weinstein.
The Aquajets compete next at the Seattle Age Group Open, July 14-16, at the Coleman Pool in West Seattle.
NWAC is a competitive swimming program of the North Whidbey Parks and Recreation District. It includes swimmers of all abilities and ages from age 6 through college.
