Aquajets remain undefeated

The North Whidbey Aquatic Club Aquajets continued their undefeated swim season topping 12 teams at the Kamiak Challenge Meet. NWAC racked up an impressive total of 1415 points, finishing above the Marysville Marlins (934) and Storm Aquatics of Lake Stevens (888).

Aquajets winning high point awards in their respective age groups included: Laura Rosen (girls 10-and-under), Cole Weinstein (boys 10-and-under), Yale Rosen (boys 11-12) and Kyle Ciminski (boys 15-and-older). Laura Rosen made her second Western Zone Championships qualifying time, and both Rosens set team records, Laura in the 500 free (6:10.95) and Yale in the 200 breast (2:50.92). Also setting a team record was Evan Wilson in the 15-and-older boys 500 free (4:59.30), becoming the first Aquajet to break five minutes in that event in several years.

Other NWAC event winners included :Price Hu, Julia Marriott, Marissa McDaniel, Amanda Streubel, Carolyn Vasquez, Evan Wilson and Kerianne Wright.

Relay event winners included: the boys 10-and-under 200 medley (Weinstein, Josh Jepsen, Aaron Wright, and John Kaltenbach), which set a team record with a time of 2:41.36; the girls 11-and-older 200 medley (McDaniel, Marriott, Wright, and Vasquez); and the girls 10-and-under 200 free (Rosen, Makenzi Schulle, Olivia Meyer, and Madeline Stevens), which qualified for next month’s Pacific Northwest Swimming Championships with a time of 2:19.88.

Several NWAC swimmers also notched new individual PNS Championship qualifying times including Abby Leete, Julia Marriott, Rachel Weinstein and Evan Wilson. Laura Rosen (500 free) and Julia Marriott (200 back) also qualified for the Northwest Age Group Sectional Championships in March.

Spencer Livermore became the second NWAC’er this season to join the Minute Club, dipping well under the 60-second barrier in the 100 free with a 59.06.

NWAC next competes at the University of Washington’s Husky Invitational this weekend at the Weyerhauser King County Aquatic in Federal Way and also at the Fall Grand Challenge in Marysville.
