The North Whidbey Aquatic Club finished second to the host team in the Mighty Marlins Sprint/Relay meet at Marysville-Pilchuck High School April 21 and 22.
The Aquajets were led by high-point winners Jerrin Concepcion and Noah Schroeder.
Concepcion, competing in the boys 9-10 division, won all six of his individual events and was victorious in four relays. Schroeder topped the boys 11 division.
Ashleigh Merrill, 8, set her first team record with a 38.88 in the 50 butterfly, breaking a 3-year-old mark.
Bruce Vagt achieved his first Pacific Northwest Swim qualifying time, dropping almost four seconds in the 50 fly (37.98).
Joining Concepcion and Merrill in the winner’s circle were Carlos Bishai, Jacob Thompson and Shamus Warden.
Angele Dennen, Joe Gorman, Maira Sulin, Thompson, Vagt, Warden and Lawrence Zapanta earned PNS gold cuts; while silver cuts were clocked by Carlos Bishai, Maria Bishai, Caitlin Dennen, Trina Desquitado, Schroeder and Zapanta.
Swimming 100 percent personal bests in individual events were Cedric Cabigting, JD Cabigting, Dennen, Joseph Gorman, Erica Sugatan, Maira Sulin, Thompson, Vagt and Warden.
Setting 100 percent personal records in relays were Alex Benton, Carlos Bishai, Maria Bishai, Cedric Cabigting, Desquitado, Jenna Flores, Michael Johnson and Marissa Morris.
Flores received the Relay Big award for four PRs in four relays, six seconds off her 50 free time (40.43) and seven seconds off her 100 free time (1:41.89).
Swimmer of the Meet honors went to Johnson for 5-of-6 individual event PRs, 6-for-6 relay PRs, second in high-point tally, three seconds off his 100 individual medley time (1:08.43) and three seconds off his 50 fly time (27.51).
NWAC next competes at its own Triple Pentathlon at the John Vanderzicht Pool, Friday, May 4, through Sunday, May 6. The meet attracts half a dozen teams from as far away as British Columbia, Bainbridge Island, Bremerton and Poulsbo. Competition begins at 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Spectators are welcome.
The North Whidbey Aquatic Club is a competitive swimming program of the North Whidbey Park and Recreation District. It includes swimmers of all abilities and ages from 6 through college.
Tryouts occur Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at the city pool from 4:25 to 5:10 p.m. New swimmers should be able to swim a length of the pool in freestyle and backstroke. The first two weeks are free.
