I would like to personally thank anyone who has ever donated blood.

I work at Summer Hill Adult Assisted Living. During work Oct. 23, an illness hit me fast and hard. My co-workers, Catherine and Laurie, were quick to help. They immediately took control of the situation.

I am a 1996 heart attack survivor, so I was taken to Whidbey General Hospital. Dr. Balshi saw to me right away.

I was weak, dizzy, short of breath, sweating and had the chills. Through blood tests the doctor found I was two units (900 cc) short of blood.

While hooked up to a blood transfusion, I was lucky enough to meet Skeeter, Lili and Tryshah. They are some of the nicest nurses I have been privileged to meet. They treated me as a person, not just a patient. And I need to thank Tim. He drew my blood during the night, always smiling and comforting. I thank you all.

During my blood transfusion I went from very weak to feeling alert and alive again. It was like breathing life into me again.

So, my heartfelt thanks go out to anyone who has ever donated blood. The short time it takes to donate has a major impact on those who need it.

My son Howard and I thank each and every person who chooses to make this difference. We feel truly blessed.
