Anacortes motorcyclist airlifted following Banta Road crash

An motorcyclist was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle late Friday afternoon after allegedly causing an accident at State Highway 20 and Banta Road.

Robert T. Peterson, 43, of Anacortes was riding a 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound on Banta Road at 4:15 p.m. He was stopped at the highway intersection when, according to Washington State Patrol, he turned left in front of Melanie A. Bolander, 52, of Oak Harbor driving a 2007 Mazda 3.

Peterson was struck by the Mazda. He was airlifted to Harborview and Bolander, who was also injured, was transported to Island Hospital.

Washington State Patrol cites the cause of the accident as failure to yield a right of way. According to a press memo, charges are pending.
