An art school, not an airline

It seems things have to change, and when you’re my age, sometimes you don’t want things always changing. Some changes are for the better, some not so much so.

If I would have had a say in the name change of the Coupeville Art Center to Pacific Northwest Art School, I would have said leave it.

I visited Coupeville and the Arts Center for the first time this summer. Recently having moved from a small town on Vancouver Island myself, the quaintness of Coupevile was particularly delightful to me. The name Coupeville conjures up in my memory all the charm of the village. It is personal, intimate, unique. Pacific Northwest sounds like an airline or a manufacturing industry. Yes, in terms of location the name is distinctive in that it is not the Atlantic Northeast or Southwest Pacific.

I’m one of those sentimental, nostalgic people. The name Coupeville is like a signature, one of a kind. Of course, I didn’t think of this until the name change happened.

I hope to be back to Coupeville soon and the Art Center.
