Alleged trespasser arrested after waffle gifting

A Langley woman was arrested after she went inside a business she was barred from entering and handed the owner a waffle in a handkerchief on Feb. 17, according to court documents.

Shannon L. Nelson appeared in Island County Superior Court Feb. 22, and the judge found probable cause existed to believe she committed the crime of criminal trespass in the first degree. The judge ruled that the 44-year-old woman can be released on personal recognizance, but a mental health provider must first interview her for possible commitment to a mental treatment facility, court documents state.

The owner of a Langley studio reported to police that Nelson entered the building in violation of a trespass admonishment. She gave him waffles, tried to hug him, confessed her love for him and said she knew he loved her too, a police report states. The man told her to leave.

The business owner told the officer that Nelson, who lives at a homeless shelter, had also been dropping off gifts at his car and studio and had tried to follow him, the report states.

The police report states that Nelson’s behavior “appears to be stalking in nature.”

On Feb. 22, the judge issued a no-contact order barring Nelson from contacting the business owner.
