African music and dance company play April 5

WICA’s 2001-2002 Family Series continues on Friday, April 5, with Adefua African Music & Dance Company from Seattle. Drummers, singers and dancers demonstrate and present West African folk dancing that has its roots in tribal and European court dances. Gregarious rythms and body isolations are unique to this festive and dynamic style of dance. Traditions of Senegal, Nigeria, Guinea, Ghana, and Zaire are featured.

Designed to appeal to kids of all ages, this show is part of WICA’s Family Series, made possible in part by generous support from The Boeing Company, Horizons Foundation, Judith Yeakel, Puget Sound Energy, and Soroptimist International of South Whidbey. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for ages 18 and under. To reserve tickets, call the WICA Box Office at 360-221-8268 or 800-638-7631.

The final Family Series performance of the year will feature clown, mime and musician Bob Berky on May 3.
