I’m not really sure what point WEAN’s Gary Piazzon was trying to make in his rambling, incoherent “Soundoff” column on Jan. 14. As near as I can tell, it was something like, “It’s bad to listen to phone calls made by terrorists in an effort to prevent the next 9/11, but you should gratefully accept demands by environmental extremist groups like WEAN to come on your property, inspect what you do with it and tell you how to make a living.  Because we are liberals, and we know better than you do what’s good for you.”

And yet, somehow, leftists seem surprised that liberal has become such a negative term that they need to try to appeal to conservatism (as Mr. Piazzon did) to try to make their his point — whatever his point happened to be!
