Oak Harbor Cinemas ran a “parents caution†warning about the contents of the movie “Hostel†(“brutal torture scenes, a film that will shock people and remain in their heads well after the film is overâ€).
I have seen and heard the previews of “Hostel†— never will I see it, nor will any others I may so influence.
What message does “Hostel†send to viewers — society — our humanity? It presents the most extreme violence one person can do to another. Will this unacceptable behavior next be available in video and computer “games?†I wonder… how many brutal crimes will be committed by twisted minded viewers, nationwide? Is this film to become another message that our country promotes, encourages and accepts such torture and violence?
“Brokeback Mountain†is a unique “love story,†yet strongly being shunned by individuals and theaters nationwide. The theme of two gay cowboys seems revolting, yet “Hostel†is sought-after by eager, anxious, thrill-seeking viewers. How sad — very sad.
