At 11 a.m. Thursday, a cream-colored Acura sedan careened up a curb and crashed into Whidbey Coffee in Oak Harbor, near the intersection of Southwest Barlow Street and State Highway 20.

Oak Harbor Police Capt. Bill Wilkie said damage to the building was significant. The car penetrated a section of the wall near some customers.

No one was injured and the coffee shop remains operational.

Prior to barrelling into the coffee shop, the driver hit a stop sign near Safeway, almost hit pedestrians and parted ways with his front bumper after hitting some storage pallets at the Safeway loading dock, according to police reports.

Officers conducted a field sobriety test and had the driver blow into a breathalyzer. According to Wilkie, there was no evidence of impairment.

The driver was arrested for reckless driving and hit and run. The vehicle belonged to a family member.
