Four girls and one boy from the Coupeville High School track team placed in the top five at the district 1A meet at Lynden Christian High School Friday, May 16, and qualified for the tri-district meet.

The first day of tri-district begins at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at King’s. The meet wraps up Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. The top five finishers in each event earn berths in the state meet.

Makana Stone sliced three-tenths of a second off her school 400 meter record at district, placing second in 59.35. She also placed second in the 200 (26.87).

Sylvia Hurlburt finished fifth in the 100 (13.31) and fourth in the 200 (28).

Stone and Hurlburt teamed with Lauren Grove and Marisa Etzell to nab fourth in the 4×200 relay (1:50.23).

For the Coupeville boys, Jared Helmstadter ran fifth in the 400 (54.79).

Nick Streubel returned to action after missing several weeks and placed seventh in the shot put (45-01) and 12th in the discus (109-09).

The Coupeville girls finished eighth in team scoring in the nine-team meet with 39 points.

The Wolves were ninth in the boys meet with 11 points.

King’s won the girls meet with 201 points and the boys with 203.5.

Matt Shank: 16th, javelin, 110-02; ninth, high jump, 5-02.

Stephen Edwards: 12th, long jump, 16-10.25; 10th, triple jump, 33-10.

Connor Thompson: 11th, high jump, 4-11.

Mitchell Carroll: ninth, triple jump, 34-06.5.
