2 from Careage die from COVID-19 as number of cases jump to 42

Two residents from Careage of Whidbey in Coupeville died as a result of COVID-19, Island County Public Health reported.

The number of residents and staff at the rehabilitation and skilled nursing facility who tested positive for the virus jumped from 32 to 42 Saturday as test results came back. Public Health reports that there are now 106 confirmed cases in the county and three deaths from the virus.

Public Health officials reported that they are not investigating any other outbreaks associated with long-term care facilities or specific locations at this time. The department has been working to identify people outside the facility who may have come in contact with Careage staff or residents.

Careage offers rehabilitation services for people who are recovering from surgery, an infection or a similar issue. In addition, the facility offers long-term nursing care for residents with special medical needs.
