It only took just over an hour for the Coupeville fastpitch team to polish of visiting Sultan 12-2 Wednesday, April 18, in five innings.
A commanding pitching performance by McKayla Bailey and a whopping 10-run fourth inning helped he Wolves break a three-game skid.
With two outs in the top of the first, a walk and two singles plated both Sultan’s runs. From there Bailey held the Turks (1-9) hitless until they picked up their third and final hit in the fifth.
Bailey finished with seven strikeouts and only one walk, firing first-pitch strikes to 15 of 17 hitters.
Hailey Hammer doubled in Ali Trumbull, who had singled, in the bottom of the first to make it 2-1.
It was pretty much three-up, three down for both teams until Coupeville’s fourth inning eruption when the Wolves sent 15 hitters to the plate and slugged 10 hits.
Hammer ignited the rally with a triple. After Bessie Walstad singled, Breeanna Messner doubled and Haley Sherman and Sydney Aparicio singled.
With one out Madeline Roberts singled, then Bailey hit a sacrifice fly. After the second out, Trumbull singled.
An error, two hits and another error helped round out the scoring.
Hammer finished with a double and triple; Trumbull was 3-for-4; and Messner, Walstad and Aparicio had two hits.
Coupeville (4-5, 5-6) plays a 2:30 doubleheader at South Whidbey (3-6, 4-6) Friday, April 20, then goes to Cedarcrest (7-1) at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 26.
