The Whidbey Island American Association of University Women invites art-lovers to admire the hidden artistic talent among island high school students at its 12th annual Showcase of the Arts on Saturday, May 2, at the Coupeville Recreation Hall.

Last year students submitted more than 200 pieces of art, Pat Lokanis, AAUW publicity chair, said.

The juried art show is open to all high school students on the island, and the AAUW will award ribbons and cash prizes for wall art, photography, sculpture and wearable art. In addition to the juried section, attendees can vote for their favorite pieces during the People’s Choice awards.

Enjoy light refreshments, local student artwork and help the Whidbey Island American Association of University Women support island high school students pursue higher education, Hours are noon to 4 p.m. May 2 at the Coupeville Recreation Hall, 901 NW Alexander St.

Admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted. Proceeds from this and other events throughout the year are used to award academic grants to high school students.
