Shaving locks to support one of Whidbey’s best

Annie Cash’s friends shaved their heads in a show of support.

There are a few more bald heads walking around Oak Harbor after a dozen friends went under the clippers for local real estate agent and blogger, Annie Cash, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

Cash said she was surprised by how many people shaved their heads to support her on Sunday.

“Jason put this all together,” Cash said, referring to her boyfriend, Jason McFadyen.

“I was completely nervous going into it, but it was pretty amazing,” McFadyen said. “I was pretty shocked and awed by everybody.”

McFadyen organized a makeshift salon in his garage and driveway complete with a hairstylist, clippers and bright red face masks with #forannie on them.

He wanted to show his support and invited people to do the same.

“It’s pretty amazing how people have come together for her,” McFadyen said.

After Cash shaved McFadyen’s head, the first person to step up to the chair was Cheryl Lueder. She has worked with McFadyen for years and wanted to do something to support Cash.

“I really didn’t want her to be the only girl with no hair,” Lueder said.

“I didn’t want her to be alone in her journey.”

She was greeted with cheers and compliments on her head shape when the locks came off, and more people stepped up for their turn.

Cash’s neighbor Heidi Chilcote was ready for a haircut, too. She wanted to support someone who has helped so many others.

“Annie would do anything for anyone,” Chilcote said.

Cash swept several categories in the Whidbey News-Times’ Best of Whidbey 2020 contest.

Cash was voted best real estate agent, top business person and community leader of the year.
