The Whidbey Island Nordic Lodge in Coupeville is offering a free concert to the Whidbey community on Saturday, March 15, at the Fritz Cornell Nordic Hall at 63 Jacobs Road in Coupeville.
“Musical Migration: Celebrating 200 years of Norwegian Immigration” will feature music written by Norwegian-American Immigrants and performed by pianist/composer/researcher Steven Luksan and soprano/Nordic art song expert Laura Loge. Luksan and Loge are presenting concerts, lecture-recitals, and workshops throughout the United States and Norway to mark the 200th anniversary of the voyage of the sailing ship Restauration carrying 520 Norwegians looking for a better life in the America.
We welcome all who enjoy music to come and listen to their blend of classical music, historically popular music (some very silly) and nostalgic chestnuts our grandparents used to sing. Much of this nearly-forgotten music has been found through Luksan’s archival research and has not been heard in a very long time.
The performance will be one hour in length and will begin at 11 a.m.
