Haunted Fort hinges on volunteers

Deadline set for Oct. 1 to see if Fort Casey will be haunted after all

Ever imagine what a haunted house would be like at Fort Casey State Park?

A manager with Washington State Parks is trying to make that happen next month, but a shortage of volunteers might cause the event to be canceled.

Sharon Sharpe, program specialist with the Admiralty Head Lighthouse in Coupeville, said that she needs a number of volunteers to step forward by Thursday, Oct. 1, or she will have to cancel the event.

The volunteers are needed to staff the lighthouse and a nearby battery at the fort for the haunting event on four nights in October. The event was scheduled to take place from 6:30-10:30 p.m. on Oct. 16, 17, 23 and 24.

Volunteers are needed for characters such as a zombie, evil clown, creepy girl and haunted fort guide.

Also needed are those interested in face painting young guests and working with costumes and makeup, prop and display builders and those who want to staff a game booth.

Proceeds from the event go toward restoration of the lighthouse.
