Here's what's happening in the Whidbey arts scene.

The WHIDBEY PLAYHOUSE 50TH ANNIVERSARY GALA EVENT will take place at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at the Chief Petty Officers Club on Ault Field Road, Oak Harbor. The event kicks off with a social hour, followed by dinner, a silent and live auction, dancing and live entertainment. Tickets cost $55 per person and are still available. Purchase tickets at the Whidbey Playhouse office on Midway Boulevard in Oak Harbor or the Wind & Tide Bookshop on Pioneer Way.

Opening night for the comedy “Moon Over Buffalo,” is 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, at WHIDBEY PLAYHOUSE in Oak Harbor. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The show runs through Sunday, Feb. 21. Visit www.whidbeyplayhouse.com for more information.

You are invited to visit with award winning photographer KELLY KELLOGG from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 31, at Penn Cove Gallery. Kelly uses a variety of camera formats and photographic techniques to obtain results ranging from realistic, impressionistic, and even surreal. His goal is to capture the essence of a scene as he sees it and share his image with others. After more than 20 years as a professional photographer, Kelly continues to study photography by learning new methods. He says utilizing different techniques keeps him creatively fresh. ROB SCHOUTEN GALLERY presents “Into the Garden‚“ Feb. 5-29. An artist’s reception will take place from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5. “Into the Garden” is a rare opportunity to see a complete selection of Schouten’s prints, both of earlier watercolors and more recent oil paintings. All Schouten prints will be discounted by 10 percent through the month of February. In addition to the featured exhibit, the works of 30 gallery artists will also be shown.

Work from the OAK HARBOR HIGH SCHOOL ART DEPARTMENT will be on display at Oak Harbor City Hall during the months of January and February.

COAST-TO-COAST CHAMBER MUSIC will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island. A group of Seattle-based chamber musicians will perform a classical music program including selections such as Mozart’s Piano Quartet in G Minor, K. 478, Biber’s Passacaglia for Solo Violin and Dvorak’s stupendous Piano Quintet No. 2 in A Major, Op. 81. “Lost in Yonkers” auditions will take place at 2 p.m., Jan. 31, at WHIDBEY PLAYHOUSE. Needed are two men, two teen boys, three women (one older woman) It is semi-autobiographical play set in Yonkers 1942. Eddie deposits his two young sons on the old lady’s doorstep. The boys are left to contend with grandma and their mentally challenged aunt and her brother Louie in a strange new world.

Michele Kempees is PENN COVE GALLERY’s featured artist for February. You are invited to Penn Cove Gallery on Saturday, Feb. 6, to watch artist Kempees demonstrate using the watercolor medium. Self-taught, she started her artist journey in high school. To learn more, go to www.michelekempees.com
