We’re paying plenty now for schools

In answer to president of the Oak Harbor School Board Dave McCool’s dissertation on the need for yet another levy, in the Oct. 4 Whidbey News-Times:

Sir, I cannot afford another levy. I am one of the many senior citizens in this area on a limited income. My children have been out of this school district for more years than I can count. I have been in the same home for over 40 years paying taxes and biting the bullet on levies for all of that time.

Because I am fortunate enough not to qualify for a senior discount on my taxes, I am paying a total of $791.10 in voted levy taxes this year. Of that amount, $583.72 is for school bonds. Added to that, is $567.64 for state school, whatever that is! Dave, that’s over $1,000 for school and I haven’t had a child in this school district since 1972!

I say “enough already” to more school levies that we limited-income property owners cannot afford! Find another way, we want to stay in our homes!
