Congratulations to the Oak Harbor Wildcat football team for remaining undefeated (9-0) for the regular season.

I was fortunate enough to be associated with the last OHHS football team to go undefeated, the 1966 Wildcat squad coached by Will McGillivray. Our team compiled a 9-0 record also and was ranked third in the state in the U.P.I. poll. The statewide playoff system did not exist in 1966.

There were at least a couple of players from that 1966 team at the Oak Harbor vs. Cascade game last Friday night. We welcomed the 2007 Wildcat football team to the undefeated club. That said, the season has not ended for this year’s team. I expect they will add to the “win” column and set a new record.

Go Wildcats! Take state (again)!
