I have read with interest the referral to Mr. Slowik as the “establishment’s candidate.” Perhaps you should refer to Webster’s definition of “establishment.” It means: “permanent civil organization; public or private institution, a group of social, economic, and political leaders.”

Last time I checked, Mr. Slowik is not part of the established political or governmental leadership. In fact, it is quite the opposite. It is Mr. Slowik who is trying to change what has been the norm “established” by his opponents.

Mr. Brewer has been part of the establishment for 12 years and Ms. Karahalios has been for the past four years in city government and was prior to that in Olympia as a state representative for two years. You can’t get much more establishment than that.

If what you are trying to convey is that there is something inherently wrong with having too much community support, I must respectfully differ.

Yes, many people support Jim Slowik. They are the folks that show their concern and love for Oak Harbor and its citizens. They are the people who in 1991 put together over $100,000 to fight to save our Naval Air Station. They are the people who got together and raised money to build our children a stadium they so badly needed.

They work hard, meet payrolls, provide for their families, raise their children, support local charities, and advocate for our schools.

I could go on, but I don’t think I need to.

I am a proud supporter of Jim Slowik. He is the right choice for Oak Harbor.
