Slow down on motorcycles

I have driven an auto or truck all over the U.S. for 60 years and a motorcycle all over rural and city roads in Northern California for five years. A motorcyclist can depend upon a motorist not seeing him in most cases. A moving motorcycle does not attract the eye. Furthermore, the motorcyclist is infinitely more vulnerable in a collision than a car driver.

Even police and fire vehicles have serious problems with motorists not noticing them — even with their red lights flashing and sirens howling. Ask any fireman or policeman. As far as car drivers are concerned, a motorcyclist is no more visible than a bicyclist and not, at a glance, moving any faster.

So curse, slow down, and enjoy riding your motorcycle for a long lifetime. Even in this case, you’re having a lot more fun than the motorist. Bless you all.
