We have some comments regarding Mr. Clifton’s statement about 138 years of “shameful neglect” of the historic Libbey house. Can the structure of any house survive 138 years of neglect? We don’t think so.
The only shameful neglect this historic house has endured has been since Ted Clifton has owned it. Mr. Clifton failed to mention the restoration Frank Meyers put into the house when he purchased it. He doesn’t even have the decency to mow the lawn, it is a disgrace.
Anyone can tell by his actions that he never had any intention of restoring or maintaining the house. As he said it’s about money. Mr. Clifton, a carpenter and contractor, of all people, should have know the condition of the Libbey house when he purchased it, not just two weeks ago. If anyone was to buy a used car, wouldn’t you at least look under the hood or check the upholstery unless you were taking it to a demolition derby?
If our great-grandfather, grandfather and father, who all lived their lives there, were able to comment on Clifton’s comments of neglect, we can only imagine their response.
We feel we know about the maintenance and work put into this house which is a piece of Coupeville history. The fourth generation of Libbeys:
