There is one time a year when the entire community of North Whidbey comes together and certain things do not matter: your view on downtown Oak Harbor’s one-way or two-way traffic, your opinion on the water tax, or your political views. That one time is Relay For Life, a two-day celebration of a year long fundraising effort for the American Cancer Society. For years, the citizens of this community have given with all their hearts to celebrate those who have survived, support those who are in the fight and remember those who have lost their battle.
North Whidbey Relay For Life achieved “pacesetter” status for the incredible fundraising efforts in 2010. This important benchmark recognizes this community for meeting and exceeding established goals. North Whidbey formed 120 relay teams and raised over $200,000! With sponsors in the Great North West Division averaging 13, North Whidbey had over 30 sponsors. This shows what an incredible community we live in!
As the pace starts to accelerate for the 2011 Relay For Life, we thank all who have supported finding a cure. We invite all to get involved in the fight, and we ask businesses to show their support by displaying the color purple at their place of business June 3 and 4, 2011, for this great fundraising event on our island.
