Recycling works in Oak Harbor

I was surprised by Jim Larsen’s essay in the Dec. 5 issue on recycling. More than a year ago we were presented with three large plastic containers by the local waste management folks in Oak Harbor. One for garbage, one for yard waste, and one for recycling specified types of materials. So were all our Oak Harbor neighbors.

All three containers are acceptable on the same day. All have two wheels and sturdy handles. All three fit neatly into the garage. We conveniently recycle now and probably save at least $5 a month in transportation costs of our hauling stuff to the dump south of Oak Harbor. The recycling container will hold much more than you can conveniently roll out to the street.

For those who have a pickup and like to haul stuff to the dump, that option is still available. The best of all possible worlds is this: the best of all possible cities.
