Imagine this — a clearcut a quarter mile deep, running from Langley all the way to Bayview. That’s how large a clearcut in the Trillium Woods was before the Whidbey Environmental Action Network, or WEAN, led a public outcry against the logging that ultimately led to a 40-acre limit on clearcuts on Whidbey and other Puget Sound islands.
While we sit, loading coffee and pondering today’s to-dos, some someones
somewhere are designing destruction (dismemberment, death) for the oak tree on Fidalgo.
I am concerned about the misrepresentation of the Ebey’s Prairie drainage problem written by Ron Newberry in the April 14 issue of The Whidbey Examiner. I am not criticizing Mr. Newberry. He is one of your best staff reporters and does an excellent job, always. The problem is reporters report what they are told during their interviews. And that is the problem with Newberry’s article titled “Prairie’s Flood of Concerns.”
I am grateful for Helen Price Johnson’s attention to and responsibility for the interests of all who value the Whidbey Island Area Fair. Our other two Island County commissioners appear more than ready to wash their hands of this county albatross, partly because most benefits accrue to South Whidbey.
I read with interest the article about the theft of the kraken’s tentacle.
In the 25 years I’ve lived on Whidbey I’ve read about consultants paid, people hired and associations formed to attract business and tourism to Oak Harbor, but have yet to see any results.
Ed Hickey’s letter in the March 19 edition, “Trump should be given a chance,” took my breath away. It was as if the gentleman had just returned from Mars.
Oh the irony of the North Whidbey community well failure article appearing next to the article about the Navy planning to clear 7.6 acres of alders and leave them in place.
Sadly, the public treasury and public-owned assets are the poorest guarded in the land.
The April 2 edition of the Whidbey News-Times on Habitat For Humanity was inaccurate and one-sided. Mandi Rothman’s negative, untrue statements were obviously neither fact checked nor researched. It is now up to others to do the due diligence.
It seems that Mr. Brian Jones found my letter asking if he or his company, CareEvolve, was affiliated with Whidbey General in response to his Sound Off commentary to be vile and irresponsible.
A lot of people have brought up the fact that they won’t vote for Trump if he’s the eventual nominee. To put this in perspective, please take the time to read this email I received.
The application for removal of a Garry oak tree on Lot 37 of Rose Hill PRD located on Melrose Drive in Oak Harbor should be denied.
