Officer puts us on the road again

We would like to thank Officer Dickinson of the Oak Harbor Police Department for going above and beyond the call of duty to help our family.

Our story was featured last month on the front page of the Whidbey News-Times. You may recall the article about the young man who lost control while skateboarding down a hill and ran into our van on Pioneer Way. Thankfully as the paper said the young man walked away from the incident with just minor scratches, however our van was not so lucky.

If you had seen the van after the incident you would have realized how God truly played a role in protecting that young man, it could have been so much worse. The van looked like it had been t-boned by another vehicle not a boy on a skateboard, the entire passenger sliding door of the van was destroyed, the glass completely shattered. And to make matters worse, not until filing the claim with our insurance company did we find out that we did not have the proper coverage for such an incident. We have since corrected that error in case such an incident happens again but of course that does not help us now.

The family of the boy who hit our car was also unable to financially pay for the $2,200 in repairs. This was our only means of transportation, we were at a loss as to what to do. That is until Officer Dickinson who was the officer at the scene of the incident became involved. Officer Dickinson took it upon himself to get our van fixed. He found a company in town willing to donate a replacement door (A-1 Towing) and someone to put the door on our van (Oak Harbor Municipal Shop). He even rolled up his sleeves and helped with the repairs at the shop.

Words cannot express how grateful we are to everyone who helped. All of these people helped simply because of the kindness of their hearts and we are so very thankful.
