New business appreciates help

I want to take this opportunity to share my experience with the Economic Development Council and the Small Business Administration SCORE program. I just recently opened my own business here on Whidbey Island. I am an occupational therapist and I specialize in hand therapy and lymphedema therapy. As anyone can imagine this is a major undertaking.

I was advised by a friend to go to the Island County Economic Development Council in Coupeville. When I arrived I was greeting by Ron Nelson, who has a great inviting smile, and that is were it all started. Sharon Hart and Ron Nelson spent a lot of time with me and set up my first appointment with a SCORE counselor, R.L. Chaney. After meeting with R.L. Chaney, he set me on my way to create my business, step by step. Besides working to get qualified with the local insurance companies, I had to do a business plan and do a cash flow sheet to assist in applying for a SBA loan. With their committed assistance, I was able to acquire a loan with Whidbey Island Bank.

The reason why I am writing this is because I want the public to know what an amazing program this is. My business is up and running and I could have never done it so thoroughly without Sharon Hart, Ron Nelson and R.L. Chaney. Their enthusiasm and unconditional support gave me the foundation and courage to move forward. This service is free to the public and it is an outstanding program for those wanting to start their own business.

In these tough economic times, it’s so nice to have the guidance of these professionals to assist you and help you succeed. R.L. Chaney is still coaching me with continued support to make my business grow. R.L Chaney, as well as Ron Nelson are Air Force veterans and they continue to serve their community/country in such a committed and respectful way. Thank you, Sharon, Ron and R.L. for all of your help.
