Never saw Wright’s Crossing property for sale

Editor,

A Sept. 30 letter from Mr. Leo Mitchell concerning the Wright’s Crossing development makes some very valid points, but I would like to clear up a couple of misconceptions.

He questions why no farmers have tried to purchase the farmland. I have lived on Monroe Landing Road for 10 years and can say with certainty that no signs have been posted in that time advertising the land is for sale.

However, the property has been leased by Penn Cove Farms since before my time in the neighborhood for the purpose of growing corn, alfalfa and winter wheat for cattle feed for their viable and ongoing local business.

The irrigation water for these crops is pumped from a man-made pond which acts as a reservoir for both rainwater and an on-site well.

The homes in the surrounding area have self-contained plumbing systems and do not rely upon Oak Harbor city water or sewer services.
