I am writing this in hope that the Navy reads this. Myself and a few other farmers were renting the ground at Outlying Field Coupeville, cutting hay, feeding some and selling some for other people’s animals. We were taking care of the ground, keeping the bad weeds under control.
Now the Navy has hired someone to block the ground off so that no one can trespass on the ground and the weeds go unchecked and will spread all over the area. We needed the ground to make a living. With the economy bad, I think this was a bad mistake.
I always thought the Navy was good because I served with them during World War II in the South Pacific hauling supplies such as food, ammo, bombs, torpedoes and tow barges into the war zone. I lived on the ground OLF has until I left for the Navy on Dec. 29, 1941, so that ground has a lot of meaning to me. I wish the Navy would think about what they are doing and let us use the ground again.
