Last Monday an epic tragedy occurred at Virginia Tech, which will have a powerful impact on all college students, including us in our quiet little corner of Washington. The issues are real issues and the hurt is real hurt. The Associated Student Body of Skagit Valley College, Whidbey Campus, and I would like to invite you to a Candlelight Tribute in remembrance of those killed this past week. For half an hour on Monday, April 23 we will gather in Oak Hall main lobby at 6 p.m.
The program will include speakers and a candlelight tribute, followed by an open forum. We invite you to join us, contemplate and discuss the serious issues brought up by this unfortunate event. Students and community members will have an opportunity to sign a condolence card. Following the program conclusion, Director of Student Services Mary Darden will be available to meet for additional individual concerns, questions or discussion.
Even if you can’t make it to our tribute, we ask that you take a moment out of your week to contemplate the lives lost, the effect it will have, and how you, in your own way, can make the world a better and safer place.
