Mayor’s off to a poor start

To Mayor Dudley: During your campaign, when you were out trekking the neighborhoods, you knocked on my door, introduced yourself and asked for my vote. You got it and succeeded in winning the office.

To Mayor Dudley:

During your campaign, when you were out trekking the neighborhoods, you knocked on my door, introduced yourself and asked for my vote. You got it and succeeded in winning the office.

Now, after only a few weeks in office, you pull what is being looked on as a “really dumb stunt,” by firing probably the best fire chief Oak Harbor has ever had. His accomplishments for the Oak Harbor Fire Department during his reign is more than outstanding. During his time, the fire department has gone from a local volunteer operation to a very highly trained and professional organization, ready to respond at a moment’s notice, not only to a fire, but to medical emergencies, and accidents, to simple things, like inspecting your home for suspected gas leaks.

This department is really first class, and it is because of Chief Soptich’s efforts. When my mother-in-law, 81, who lived with us her last four years, was having trouble breathing one night, 911 was called and Chief Soptich responded also. He made every effort to see that she was comforted. Unfortunately, she passed away early the next morning.

In the 24 years I’ve know Mark, both as a professional doing his job and a personal friend, you couldn’t ask for a better individual.

I hope you are happy, mayor. Keep this up and your reign might be over before you know it.
