This summer has proven to me that this island would be an utter misery if we had to depend on tourism to keep us afloat.
It felt like our first responders were practically living at the bridge for the past three months, our roads were stuffed and our parks were full, making it pretty unpleasant for all residents, not just Oak Harbor and Coupeville.
I think it’s interesting that four to five publications all wrote articles about Whidbey practically at the same time; or if they were somehow encouraged to do so?
I live directly under a flight path. I’d rather deal with the Growlers any day than the mad amount of tourists that crowded up our home this summer.
The Navy doesn’t trash our parks, they don’t mistreat our residents and they are all polite, respectful citizens while here. What do you know, they act like residents, not tourists who don’t have a stake in our community and only come out to play.
Now that the crowds are gone, I’m going to go out and enjoy our home while there is still a little bit of summer left.
