Letter: Whidbey folks look out for each other

Editor,

I know, you all must get these types of letters often. But I guess I just need to pile on. On Feb. 12, I was walking to the ferry and was about halfway along the walkway next to the parking area when I tripped and fell. Hard. Out of nowhere a half dozen or so nice folks showed up to see if I was OK and to help if they could. These people were really concerned. I’m 66 so they saw some old guy fall and, since old folks don’t bounce as well as young folks, their concern was justified. After I was seated on the ferry a couple came up to ask me if I was truly OK.

And this is one of the reasons why I live and love living on Whidbey Island. The great community and great sense of community. People look out for each other. They help people they have never met. Pool their money, buy land and then donate it to the county so that everybody can enjoy another park.

So I want to say “thank you” to Island County folks in general and a special “thank you” to those caring people who wanted to make sure I was OK today when I did a face plant walking to the ferry.
