Letter: Superintendent shouldn’t earn more than Inslee

Upon receiving our 2021 property tax statement I noticed four different school categories for tax distribution. I added those four amounts together, and the total taxes we will pay for schools is 50 percent of our total tax bill.

Half of our taxes are going to schools.

After some research, I see that Superintendent Jo Moccia’s annual salary is $197,353, with that salary being adjusted upward after review.

She oversees approximately 1,300 students and 200 staff.

In comparison, Gov. Jay Inslee’s current salary is $187,353. He oversees a state population of about 7 million.

Superintendent Moccia makes more than the governor of our state.

Does anyone else see a problem with this? I wonder what the teachers are making.

Maybe the newspaper will do some research and write an article about it so we would have an idea of what our taxes are being used for.

I think that we’re a small district and we could get by with less money spent at the administrative level.

Why not a part-time superintendent and shared principals?

We need to get creative and think out of the box, and then maybe we could see our taxes go down.
