Letter: Story on Girl Scout project was welcome

Editor,

I want to thank you for the Aug. 25 article describing Olivia Varga’s Girl Scout community service project setting up an educational beehive near the school farm and creating the curriculum to go with it.

It was wonderful to read about Olivia’s creative project, with the assistance of local beekeeper Joseph Suggs, and the goal of educating future students about ecology and our interdependence with the natural world. With so much in the news that is negative, distressing, and divisive, often reflected in the Letters to the Editor, this article was a reminder of the ingenuity and promise of our young people and their vision and hope for the future.

Thank you, Olivia, and wishing you all the best in college and beyond. Thanks to the South Whidbey Record for this positive, inspiring story.
