Letter: St. Clair’s ideas aligned with people

Editor,

Janet St. Clair should, and deserves to be, our next Washington state senator. In addition to a long record of proven leadership on the Island County Board of Commissioners, her policy positions are aligned with the people of Island County far more than those of her opponent.

As a county commissioner, St. Clair has worked hard to protect healthcare access, women’s reproductive rights, and build affordable housing. She has been an active advocate for economic development, supporting small businesses throughout the pandemic with dedicated funding to help bridge those difficult times. She has been the leading voice on expanding internet access to make sure that small businesses, remote workers, and pandemic-isolated families have access to this important resource.

St. Clair supports women’s reproductive freedom, while her opponent has opposed measures to enshrine these rights into Washington law. She has led the way on making Island County more environmentally conscious and prepared, while her opponent has opposed major Washington laws which actually reduce environmental pollutants while raising funds for schools, ferries, and other essential services.

During her six years as an Island County commissioner, St. Clair has repeatedly demonstrated that she listens to the people in our communities, works hard to develop effective solutions to their concerns, and follows through with action to bring about the best results for all of us.

Please join me in supporting Janet St. Clair for Washington state Senate. We need a seasoned and effective leader who will support our values in Olympia.
