Editor,
Once again, the good people of Whidbey Island opened their wallets and their hearts to support the girls and women of South Whidbey by bringing their bags and boxes of unwanted documents to the Soroptimists of South Whidbey’s semiannual SHRED IT event, Saturday May 17. Some people came from as far as Oak Harbor. It was a record turnout, which will enable us to do more to empower women to be economically secure through education.
We especially want to thank SaviBank for their generous donation to help offset the cost of renting the truck and allowing us to use their parking lot. Without their support, this event would not be possible.
The turnout was so large, however, that the SHRED IT truck filled up much earlier than expected. We apologize to those of you who came only to find that the event had already ended. We did not anticipate that so many people would come and with so much. We are working to figure out a way to accommodate more people yet at a price we can afford. We pledge to have many of these problems solved by our next SHRED IT event on Oct. 4 at Heritage Bank in Freeland.
