For the last several years we have, in the Spirit of Christmas and simply to show our appreciation of their services, added our postal carriers and our garbage haulers of South Whidbey to our Christmas card list.

To additionally show our appreciation we also put a small amount of cash in the card. In turn, we annually have received Christmas cards in return and/or personal thanks and Christmas cheer.

This year, in recognition of these wonderful “essential workers,” we plan to increase our gifts.

Just a suggestion, but maybe others would like to join us. I’m quite sure some residents are doing comparable things this holiday season already. After all, we have not had a week when our garbage can was not emptied, nor a day when our mailbox was not filled.

Thanks again to these special workers.
