Letter: Look closely at candidates

Editor,

Rita Latsinova is a better choice for judge.

I urge voters to check the backgrounds of the candidates for Court of Appeals, and not just take the word of a letter writer to the newspaper.

I almost did. The candidate she recommended, and the one preferred by the Skagit County Republican Party, represented the neighbors fighting public access in the Wonn Road beach access dispute.

Rita Latsinova has handled appellate cases in Washington state for 20 years. She also has volunteered, pro bono, on successful cases for the American Civil Liberties Union, the Northwest Women’s Law Center, and the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project.

She is endorsed by former state Supreme Court judges Bobbe Bridge, Barbara Madsen and Phil Talmadge, and others I respect.

She sounds like the person I want as an Appeals Court judge, so I am voting for Rita Latsinova.
