Letter: Not a zealot, but wears mask, got COVID vaccination

Editor,

I am not a Democrat, nor am I an anti-vaxxer. I am an American. I did not want to get the COVID-19 shots, but I wanted to get COVID even less, so I got them, as advised by my doctor.

I don’t like masks, but I wear one inside, everywhere, when I’m away from my own home. It depends on the day whether I feel I’m doing that for your safety or mine. Yes, I know the guidance states that it protects those around the mask wearer.

Most of us know that encouraging our fellow Americans to get a COVID shot does not happen by making assumptions of how they voted, what news channel(s) sources they follow, and telling them to “get a life.” But it will get your letter published in the Whidbey News-Times opinion page. Congratulations!

To my friends who have chosen not to get the shot thus far, you are still my friends. All of you are intelligent enough to do all you can to stay healthy, as you did before COVID, and continue reading medical information from different sources. I hope you do feel comfortable enough to get the shot in the future and I hope all of us who already have don’t live to regret getting ours.
